HISTORY

When we talk about Serra D’El Rei, it releases various memories that remind us of special places like the Royal Palace (“O Paço”) where you breath a magical atmosphere, inspired in stories, memories and where the eternal love of D. Pedro I and D. Inês took place which makes us believe that this is a magical place.

In front of this Palace, there is a building that was built the purpose to keep live animals. Years later the Space was used by José Leitão, a blacksmith known for his bad mood and to threat his employee that if he didn’t work he would throw a hammer to his head, but the employee responded that he was lucky if he didn’t throw him two. In 1940 a cooper used this place to work, the man was called by others “Lila”. In 1952 the S. Sebastião Church was in renovations, so this place was used as the village church, where aside from the normal masses was also carried out the marriage of Alberto Baleia.
In 1959, it was chosen to store the materials and the tools that were used to take water to Peniche. In 1968 served as a storage for algaes. In 1978, it was again a church, but this time not catholic.
In 2010 this space with a nice height, with stone walls and a wood ceiling, that after renovations was decorated with an interesting mixture of farming devices, everyday items and sacred art. From the windows we can see the Royal Place. It’s a Restaurant that we are talking about, and it all starts with the name “Em Banho Maria“, a restaurant with Portuguese tradicional food.
Fernanda and Henrique, gathered in this space a little bit of history since the time of kings until today, taking us to a rustic environment, but also filled with history, passion and some magic.
